White Chucks!

Dean Ashton had kindly donated this pair of Converse in white,  UK Size 11.

As you can see in the photographs, Dean has only gently worn them a few times so they are in good condition.

Dean, a highly praised, talented centre-forward, has played for Norwich City, Crewe Alexandra, West Ham, and was also capped for England.

What can we say about All Stars?!  It all started in 1917 when the Converse Rubber Shoe Company designed a shoe called the All Star for the USA professional basketball shoe market.  In 1921, a basketball player called Charles "Chuck" Taylor joined a basketball team sponsored by the Converse Company called The Converse All Stars. He held basketball clinics in high schools all over the county and while teaching the game, he sold the All Star shoes. As a salesman and athlete for the company he also made improvements to the shoe.  (You can thank him for the patch on the ankle for protection).

All Stars were soon worn by many of professional basketball players, Olympic athletes, and during World War Two American soldiers wore them in training. By the 60s, ninety percent of professional and college basketball players were wearing them.

In 1923 Converse incorporate Chuck Taylor's name onto the ankle patch that displayed the Converse All Star logo, which is how the shoe became known as the 'Chuck Taylor' All Star, or 'Chucks'.
